Pure faith is absolutely viable, I respecc'd from a dex/faith winged scythe to full faith caster. Honed/lightning spear for trash, black flame for bosses(the DoT is based on enemy max health, it wrecks bosses). The pata weighs literally nothing and has a good mood set, and no requirement other than faith, as does the coded sword.

With a strength/faith build you can use the erdtree greatshield which makes you nigh unbeatable for sorcery in general since all you need to do is parry to become unhittable. I love that thing.
